From the Arcanian Parish series
2026

In the 19th century United States private social clubs were strictly separated by gender. Arcanian Parish, my recent photo collage series, refers to a fictional Louisiana parish where men would gather, escaping the burdens of their everyday lives, to explore friendship, love, nature, home, religion, death and the afterlife. The term Arcanian, stemming from the Latin word arcana, means secret and/or hidden - often used in reference to the mysteries of nature and the spiritual world. These pieces, created from 3 centuries of photography, depict the untold stories of these men as they frequented their own Arcanian Parishes of their 19th century American South.
