Portrait Collage
Atchafalaya is part of my portrait collage series – images depicting the untold stories of clandestine relationships between men of 19th century Louisiana, exploring themes of friendship, love, nature, spirituality, death, and the afterlife. In this piece two men travel deep into the Louisiana swamp escaping the hardships of their every day lives. They are accompanied by a friend on the secret journey who captivate them with his haunting music. The peculiar trinity has settled at the edge the murky water - on one side is a musician atop a gravestone playing banjo, on the other is a man atop a horse, sharing crawfish with a red tailed hawk. In the center, cross-like, the protagonist holds an alligator, known as the guardian of secrets
