This new piece depicts the visual memory of my very first Mardi Gras experience in New Orleans. That Tuesday morning years ago, we rose early and headed to the Bywater to gather for the pre-Parade rituals of music, dance, and admiration of all the incredible costumes. Upon entering the side courtyard of the house, I was struck by the surreal scene of a beautiful woman in a 19th century tattered wedding dress, wearing a full size horse headpiece. Since that moment, this stunning figure has always been one of the most defining images for me of Mardi Gras day, that early morning party, the Krewe of Saint Anne and of Carnival in its entirety.
